The EDCTP Forum 2025 took place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 15 to 20 June under the theme ‘Better health through global research partnerships’. The EDCTP Forum is a biennial event that provides an international platform for presenting and discussing cutting-edge research into poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the capacity development and networking activities that support this goal.

Over the past two decades, the EDCTP Forum has evolved to become one of the most prominent cross-disease and interdisciplinary conferences. It now gathers diverse stakeholders, including representatives from research institutions and universities, the wider scientific community, healthcare providers, governments, regional bodies, regulators, civil society and public and private research and development partners.

Although the SkincAIr project had only just begun by the time of the Forum, some of its representatives did not want to miss the opportunity to attend. SkincAIr is also one of the projects co-funded by the Global Health EDCTP3 programme, which organised the event with other partners. Gustavo Hernández (from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and coordinator of the SkincAIr project), David Shaik (from Sherwood Science) and Dr Hellen Barsosio (from the Kenya Medical Research Institute [KEMRI]) travelled to Kigali to present SkincAIr to the medical community at the EDCTP Forum and engage in discussions with the medical and research professionals in attendance.

The EDCTP Forum was the first of many events and conferences that SkincAIr will attend over the next five years. Stay tuned!
